I agree. For the official acts that the former president did as a president has to be covered by a broad immunity from prosecution. However, this specific case is not an official act.
If Trump were the current POTUS, he would have been impeached from that very act. He cannot be protected using the broad immunity from prosecution simply because he is not the current POTUS for the crime that he commited when he was the current POTUS then. The crime should have impeached him even after he stepped down from POTUS and the crime should have prosecuted him in a timely manner.
It is a critical crime against the capitol hill. You cannot close your eyes on it. If you do, someday, Trump will assault the judiciary branch as well. Think again. |
