Are you sane ? UN is an organization formed as a result of the 2nd world war. All 5 permanent members of UN security council are the allied powers of the 2nd world war. Germany and Japan are the Axis powers. Zelenskyy might have asked to add more members just to weaken the influence of Russia. But that won't work as Russia has an absolute Veto power. Worse yet, Russia's friend, China also has one. Adding 10000 members into UN security council won't do. (well, we do not have 10000 UN members either)
That said, Germany cut all the links to their past and has been trying their best in finding and prosecuting all the war criminals even today. Hence, Germany is clean and ok. (well, you can see some left-overs of Nazis if you visit Germany but nobody is perfect. Germany is on the right track, at least)
However, Japan is quite different. Japan never cut any links to their past and never actually prosecuted any major war criminals. (They did prosecute some of the minor war criminals, including the ones from their colonies who did not voluntarily participate into the war, just to show off) Japan still teaches their young ones that Japan did not do anything wrong before, during, and past the 2nd world war and the 2 nukes that they got is not because Japan was bad but because somehow US is bad. Japan shall never be into the UN security council.
PS Japan has soverignity conflicts with ALL of their surrounding countries based on the documents that they forged during the war periods. Japan could use their power on the conflicts as a permanent member of the UN security council if inducted. A lot of US politicians are Pro-Japanese but that could be because of their ample financial support direct and indirect. But they have to remember that Japan can betray them (us) at any moment as Japan did in Pearl Harbor.
PPS Japan also has nuclear material refineries (and a massive amount of used fuel rods that has plutonium) and has capability to launch rockets to put probes everywhere. In other words, Japan is about 2-3 months away from having a Nuclear ICBM if not closer. (I know you can talk about liquid fuel vs solid fuel and Japan failed in their recent rocket launches but those failures don't mean Japan does not have a rocket technology. The failures rather mean that Japan is developing state of the art rocket technology) |
