Kathleen Lumley College is on the market!

a piece of history is being removed. sad.

 

I wish I am wealthy enough to just buy it off. But in reality, I am not that wealthy and likely the property has been already sold as I found the article that it is on the market published in 2023!

It includes several familiar pictures that I still remember with a lot newer ones that must have been renovated after I left in 1994! Men it has been 30 years. Considering how static Australian economy is, there is absolutely no value in investing into that property not to mention that redeveloping the property will be almost impossible as it is designated as one of the heritage sites. When we had to repair one of the gates (somebody broke into the college while those folks physically broke the lock of the gate), we had to look for the "original architect" to get the approval while the gate was built way more than 20 years prior to that date and it was not clear where the architect is, not to mention if the original architect is still alive. Fortunately we could find him and well. (even after we got his approval, we had to hoop though many more hurdles including multiple councils until we got the "lock" replaced on the gate) If replacing a lock on a gate is this difficult, good luck if you want to rebuild part of the property let alone I am not sure if the original architect is still ok.

 

I miss the days while I was there. I was young. so young while I thought I am so old then. :)

 

Spats was closed and sold out long ago. pieces of me are fading away. Friends, are you there ?

ps. the article states that cottages will be sold separately. perhaps I still have a chance.

pps. (as of June, 2025) Kathleen Lumley College has been sold by the end of 2024 and currently reopened for an accommodation business not just limited to students and scholars. The beautiful days are long gone with my youth but Adelaide will be there.
